ROME TRIP 2016
12:06Early February 2016, myself and my classmates from college went on one of the most amazing trips I've ever been on. The Rome and Sorrento trip was packed full of discovery, walking around for 13 hours a day (it was fun) appreciating how intelligent the Roman's were for their time, and eating pizza everyday for lunch (that was my choice aha).
The Trevi Fountain was the most beautiful experience to see. It was packed and fill with many people making wishes and trowing coins in, which myself and my friends did. Whilst having our Lizzie McGuire moment, waiting for Paolo to appear, we go to appreciate the beautiful waterfalls and the art of this architecture in this iconic Italian fountain. If you're wondering if Paolo came, he sadly didn't.
Seeing the Colosseum in person is so surreal! It was an amazing piece of Architecture and to understand how advanced the roman's were in the technology was just spectacular to hear about. If you ever go, definitely get a tour guide to take you round, it's so interesting to hear about the history of this phenomenal structure.
Where did my friend Sian go? She decided to turn into a classic Greek stature at Hadrian's villa. This was another amazing historical site we visited during the 5 days of being in Italy. Hadrian was a very wealthy man, and you could most definitely tell this from his practically a village holiday villa!! The majority of it had lost it's ceilings and roofs, but there was still so many buildings and mosaics to see.
Pompeii was a very heart-breaking visit. It was so big and we didn't cover all of it as some was closed off to members of the public. Apon entrance to the city, there were two glass buildings displaying the bodies of some of the citizens still in the lava. It was really upsetting to see and imagine the traumatic experience they went through. It was a great day! Except for the fact that myself and a few of my friends, ended up getting locked out of Pompeii... We were following the sign for the toilet, didn't realise we'd even left the grounds, we actually hadn't walked out of the historical site. But the security guard was very miserable and wouldn't let us back in. So we went and go ice-cream and waited for about and hour before our class came out.
The trip as a whole was an incredible experience! I made so many memories and friends throughout the trip. I got to go to some of the most beautiful places ever and understand these historical places from the Roman's view. I hope some day I can go back and experience it all again.
