Following from my group review with our Tutors on Wednesday, I changed my design. I prefer the new design to the old, as the jacket on the previous seemed too feminine for the male market. After discussing about having a bomber jacket with my tutors, I created the technical flats of the garments I wish to produce. I will be making these into toiles, to present to Faye and Kate from COAST next Tuesday. I'm very excited to show them what we could offer to their potential male costumers.
My tutors felt that with menswear, I couldn't go wrong with creating a lightweight bomber jacket for Resort day wear. A printed bomber in a lightweight fabric would look amazing and is also a good idea, as it can be used again in any season.
For the T-shirt, My tutors felt that the previous polo-shirt was a little outdated, so they suggested to create something that had a simple and nice neckline. So I thought about creating a t-shirt out of a nice lightweight and breathable fabric, with a button stand of some sort, as this will offer options to the customer, of how they wish to wear this t-shirt.
The trousers are staying the same, as we all agreed that it was a nice idea having the panels in the front and back of the trousers.

After our review with our Tutors last Wednesday, we decided we needed to adapt our colour palette a little, to fit our digital print selections. Ian in my group, looked over the digital prints that were selected by our tutors, looking into the colours and creating a large range of 18 colours. Katie then picked out a few from the colours Ian had selected. Creating our new colour palette.

To develop my print further, I spoke to Maria about distorting some more of her paintings and combining it with my line print. So for the first 8 prints, I mainly stuck to using 3 layers; 2 layers of Maria's paintings and my layer of print. I distorted the layers and cut out sections to reveal different print underneath.
To go further into developing these prints, I then placed some of the previous developed prints into mine, to create this animal-like print. I then distorted this new print in various different ways, to see how it could look. The orange and yellow versions of the print below, were a combination of mine and Lilla's prints, which I created.

To get a feel and idea of the collection, Maria created our illustrated line-up. It was great to see how our collection will sit next to one another and with having this illustrated line-up, we could get a better picture in our minds.

Monday 9th April 2018
I looked over the research that's in my sketchbook, drawing over sections of images on acetate, to create little prints. I drew over one particular section of Van Gogh's Starry Night painting, following the paint strokes, to create a abstract line print.
I originally drew over the section of the painting on acetate with a permanent marker. I then decided to recreate this print in illustrator. The image to above on the right, is the illustrator version of the painting to the left. Once I had finished drawing this print in illustrator, I then played about with mirroring the print and creating a larger print, which is below.
After just creating a couple different layers, I spoke to Maria about laying my print over the paintings she had created. I played about with the colours of the line print, the thickness of the lines and the scale of the line print. I created over 30 different prints with Maria's paintings, so I've only selected a few of these experiments.

I had struggled with trying to create a evening menswear
design, so my tutors advised me to design for Resort day wear instead. I homed
in on one particular collage I created and from there, I developed 10 new
designs. After speaking with my tutors just before Easter break, they advised
me to go forward with this design. I created the technical's of this design to
get an idea of how exactly I would make this design when pattern cutting.
The trousers I have designed have panels in front and the back, which I have thought about putting our final digital print in these panels. Bringing the print into the garment in a subtle way. I did suggest creating shorts instead of trousers, as it would fit more into Resort day wear, but I was advised by my tutors to stick with the design.
For my jacket, I wanted to create something lightweight and inspired by the drape we all as a group, wanted to inform our designs. I thought about creating this design by having a basic jacket with the draped pieces on top out of a lightweight material.
For the t-shirt, I wanted something quite simple and casual. So I opted for a classic polo shirt to accompany my other two garments. I thought about having the collar and possibly the panels on the sleeves to be out of our final prints, but keeping a main part of the shirt a nice ivory or off white colour.
